Wow, what can I say… I want to give a huuuge shout out to Nora at Fabulously Mom for nominating me for the Sunshine Blogger Award! She’s a terrific blogger and such a babe for doing so.
The Sunshine Blogger Award is passed down from one blogger to another for being all-around bad ass bloggers. It started an an award to showcase inspirational, creative bloggers and has since turned into the cutest blogging community recognition ever.
Now that I’ve been nominated, it’s my turn to return the favor! I have a few blogs in mind, but I would love to be introduced to even more options! If you think you’ve got what it takes, leave a link to your blog down below and tell me a bit about yourself and your blog. I will give you all one week to comment your blog and I will take a look at every single one that is posted before May 27th.
To be entered for consideration you must:
1. Join my email subscription
2. Comment on this post with your name, blog’s url, contact email, and a couple sentences describing you and your blog.
That’s it! Once I have chosen my eleven nominations, I will contact you via the contact email you left down below.
Once you’re chosen you are required to:
1. Create a post (just like this one) that explains the Sunshine Blogger Award
2. In that post, thank the person who nominated you and leave a link to their blog
3. Answer the 11 questions asked by your nominator
4. Nominate 11 other blogs and create your own 11 questions for them to answer
5. Notify your nominees
6. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in that post.
How fun! Now, on to the questions I was asked…
What motivates you the most to blog?
This will be such a cheesy answer, but since being introduced to blogging I have finally found what having a passion feels like. I love every aspect of making a house a home and the “domestic arts” as I like to call it. And I’m classically trained as a photojournalist, so my writing and photography experience just seemed to fit perfectly. I’m motivated by my love of what I do.
Share a post you are so proud of?
I recently wrote a post called 12 Habits of Those Who Always Have a Clean Home and it blew up! Almost viral you could say. I love how the post reads and I feel that I did a really good job in the organization and thought process involved in creating that post. It just proves that quality posts are much better than quantity.
How many times do you blog per week?
I can’t really stick to a schedule yet due to my crazy work and school life. But I usually have about three posts a week. Sometimes more, sometimes less. I’d love to have 5+ posts a week once I’m finished with school.
What’s your favourite book?
It may sound weird coming from someone who writes for a living… but I don’t really enjoy reading. I love books and I love story telling, but sitting down and reading feels like a waste of time. It’s the same with movies and watching tv. I’m a busy body and it stresses me out to relax and do nothing for too long. I’m crazy, I know haha.
Why did you start blogging?
Initially I started as a way to make a little more money. So far I’ve made 48 cents. So obviously I’m not sticking around for the cash haha. It would be a dream if Hale and Harlow could one day be my career, but in the mean time, I’m 100% okay with this being a hobby. I have so much fun creating DIY projects and recipes and helping inspire people that money is no longer a factor.
What made you chose your blog’s niche?
My niche is all over the place. I love decor, cooking, cleaning, organizing, DIY and every other lifestyle topic. Which is basically why I call my niche the domestic arts. I’ve been watching HGTV and the Food network since I was a baby. My mom was also very into homemaking and all that, so I grew up around it my whole life. She had a craft room that was always stocked with so many random crafts and scrapbooking things. And my father owned his own construction business and built the home I grew up in. I feel as if I’m a perfect combination of the two of them, and so I was basically destined to be an artsy, creator type.
How do you get yourself motivated to write in your blog?
I’m on pinterest 24/7 or I’m always online shopping, so I see lots of things I want for my own home. And like I said, I need to be doing something all the time. It’s easy for me to want to work on my blog. It kind of just works out perfectly for me.
Give any advice to all the bloggers who just started?
I still consider myself a new blogger, so take my advice with a grain of salt. But I’d say that any new blogger should be prepared to spend money to make money. I know that’s not very fun advice, but paying for great design, programs and plugins is so worth it. Of course, first decide if blogging is worth spending your money on. But if this is something you want to be taken seriously for, spending money is unfortunately a requirement. Start out slow and don’t go buying everything that is offered to you, but do your research is learn what will give you the biggest benefit for your buck.
Besides that, write in your own voice! I can’t stress that enough. People like to feel like they’re reading a real human speak, not a polished, perfect dictionary. Be unique, be yourself, and be genuine. I promise that will get you further and you’ll enjoy writing so much more.
Do you love blogging?
Can you not tell already? I actually, really do. Like I said, this is my passion, and it’s so refreshing to finally feel that way about something.
Who is your favourite blogger?
That’s a tough one… Because of my love for farmhouse I need to give a shout out to Liz at Liz Marie Blog. Everything she does is beautiful. Also, I really look up to Kimberly at A Night Owl Blog because I feel like she’s at the exact level of success that I aspire for. She keeps it real, isn’t trying to be all about aesthetics, and our niche’s are super similar.
Who inspire you the most in life generally?
I heard an acceptance speech Matthew McConaughey gave during an award show, and it really gave me a new perspective on who you should be inspired by. He explained that his biggest inspiration is himself in ten years. At 25 he was inspired by the 35 year old Matthew McConaughey, when he was 35 it was the 45 year old Matthew McConaughey, and so on. I think that is such a good way to look at things and I can honestly say I feel the same way. The 31 year old Emily Amyotte is who inspires me the most.
Congratulations! Here are my questions for my nominees:
1. What first sparked your interest in blogging?
